First Methodist Church
The First Methodist Church was said to be the third oldest church in Cairo. In 1855, missionaries visited the settlement of Cairo to preach to the few Methodist families there and instilled a desire for a meeting place of their own.
Therefore, the Methodist Episcopal Society was organized. Funds were raised to erect a building. The new building, a frame construction of 38' X 60', was constructed with dedication following in March of 1857. In 1891, a new brick building
replaced the original framed one.
As you can see, the church is closed and being destroyed. More details
will be added when available.
